Thinking outside the box: Reducing plastic in food production

An example of our passion to develop new products is the Liquid Interleaving System. Improving the sustainability of food products requires looking beyond ingredients and raw materials. Packaging, in particular, offers untapped potential for many manufacturers. This includes interleavers, the plastic films that separate slices of cheese, ham, or analog products. These plastics are disposable materials that contribute to more waste and increased transportation costs.

CAPOL has therefore partnered with an industry partner to invent the Liquid Interleaving System. Here, plastic films can be replaced with a spray system. The liquid is long-lasting, offers excellent separation, does not alter the taste of the product, and does not affect its shelf life.

Innovations like this system demonstrate that CAPOL is the right partner for sustainability – whether through optimizing production processes on a large scale or identifying potentials that others overlook.

A natural safeguard for good flavor

We can also optimize food products themselves: Freshly harvested exotic fruits often have a short shelf life when ripe, leading farmers to harvest them prematurely. However, premature harvesting negatively affects their taste. We have addressed this challenge for our customers by developing a new and unique food coating. Our solution preserves the taste, extends shelf life, and reduces the need for chemical agents typically used to improve shelf life. Our food coating consists of plant-based ingredients, offering a more natural alternative to present fruits with the best flavor to end consumers.
